NEW DELHI: Israel used a locally developed air-to-surface missile called The Rampage in its overnight Thursday-Friday attack on Iranian military base in Isfahan, the Times of Israel reported citing a Hebrew media report.
According to the Kan broadcaster, The Rampage was identified based on images and the magnitude of the damage produced during the attack.
The 4.7-meter (15-foot) rocket may travel at supersonic speeds, making it difficult to identify and intercept with air defense systems like the Iron Dome, the Times of Israel reported.
Israel is yet to comment officially on the attack.
Meanwhile, Iran’s foreign minister compared the drones used by Israel to “toys,” in comments that aimed at downplaying the significance of the strike on Iranian territory.
The drones intercepted in the central city of Isfahan “were more like toys that our children play with – not drones,” he said. Israeli officials have made no public comment on what – according to a senior US congressional source – were retaliatory Israeli strikes against Iran.
The Rampage, which weighs more than half a ton and was launched in 2018, was meant to enter and demolish defended sites like as bunkers, according to its makers, Israeli Military Industries Systems and Israel Aerospace Industries.
