Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone is an American hurdler and sprinter specializing in the 400 meters hurdles. She has achieved commendable success in her career, and is a force to be reckoned with in track and field.


In November 2016, McLaughlin-Levrone signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the University of Kentucky. There, she competed for their track and field program. During this time, she also set the world junior 400-meter record of 50.36 seconds at the NCAA Division I Indoor Track and Field Championships in March 2018. Additionally, she broke the collegiate record in the 400 meters hurdles, running 52.75 seconds at her first SEC championship appearance in May 2018. After one year at Kentucky, McLaughlin-Levrone turned professional in June 2018. She forfeited her remaining college eligibility, and subsequently signed a sponsorship deal with New Balance.


McLaughlin-Levrone is known for her extraordinary achievements in the 400 meters hurdles. She set a world record time of 50.65 seconds at the U.S. Olympic Trials in June 2024. She also became the first woman to break the 52-second barrier in June 2021 and the 51-second barrier in July 2022. McLaughlin-Levrone is a two-time Olympic champion. She won gold at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and the 2022 World Championships. In addition to all her feats, she also holds six of the nine fastest times ever recorded in the 400 meters hurdles.

Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone was born to Willie and Mary McLaughlin. Her father, Willie was a record-holder himself. He was a semi-finalist in the 400 meters at the 1984 Olympic Trials. He’s currently a member of the Manhattan College Athletic Hall of Fame. Her mother, Mary, was a 2:12 half-miler at Cardinal O’Hara High School. Sydney has three siblings: Taylor, Morgan, and Ryan. Taylor won a silver medal in the 400 meters hurdles at the 2016 IAAF World U20 Championships. In May 2022, Sydney married Andre Levrone Jr. Levrone has achieved notable success in his own way, as a former NFL wide receiver. He now works in real estate.
