NEW DELHI: In the early hours of Monday morning, a shooting incident occurred in close proximity to the University of Cincinnati campus, resulting in five individuals being shot, three of whom succumbed to their injuries. Law enforcement officials have taken two people into custody, one of whom was among the wounded.
According to Cincinnati police Capt.Mark Burns, who communicated with The Associated Press via email, “There were multiple firearms recovered at the crime scene and two subjects (one of which was also shot) are being detained at this time.” However, he refrained from providing any additional details.
Prior to the incident, the university’s public safety department had posted on the social platform X, alerting the community that police were responding to an emergency situation shortly before 3 a.m Subsequently, they confirmed that a shooting had taken place and advised individuals to “Be observant/take action as needed.”
Approximately an hour after the initial alert, the department issued an “all clear” message, assuring the community that the situation had been resolved. They also stated that “police will maintain heavy presence” in the area.
According to reports from local news stations, officers who were patrolling the vicinity had heard multiple gunshots and, upon arriving at the scene, discovered several individuals suffering from gunshot wounds. The reports further indicated that all five individuals who were shot were male.
