KEMPNER — Retired U.S. Army Lt. Col. Catherine Blashack recorded a number of “firsts” during her 23-year military career.

The Minnesota native now living in Kempner, just west of Copperas Cove and Fort Cavazos, graduated high school in 1974, earned a bachelor’s degree in theater and a minor in textiles in 1978 from the College of Saint Benedict in St. Joseph, where she also participated in ROTC and received her Army commission as a second lieutenant.
